Flinders Uni hub 2 (2)Crime scene investigation and virtual autopsies are just two of the exciting immersive experiences at Flinders University’s Open Days today and tomorrow (12-13 August).

More than 10,000 visitors are expected to take tours of the impressive new Student Hub and Plaza at Bedford Park and enjoy a range of hands-on, high-tech experiments at the Uni’s world-class laboratories and facilities over the two days.

Open Days are a great chance for prospective students, parents and friends, the public and also alumni to see what the University has to offer – along with all the new attractions.

“Flinders opened a spectacular multimillion-dollar Student Hub and Plaza this year which is a showcase of our new facilities,” says Flinders Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Students) Professor Clare Pollock.

“We warmly welcome everyone to visit the Bedford Park campus – and Flinders at Tonsley next Friday (19 August) – to see what we have to offer,” she says.

“It’s a brilliant opportunity to gather information about our world-class courses and to see the amenities which are transforming the learning experience and career opportunities for thousands of South Australians.”

All fields of study will be showcased in more than 140 information sessions over two big days – from law and forensic science, to medicine and nursing, science and engineering, education, politics, archaeology and the humanities.

The CSI forensic display focuses on blood-splatter analysis techniques developed by Forensic and Analytical Science specialists at Flinders.

A mock courtroom and prism glasses will give insights into the psychology of witness evidence and what comprises a fair trial.

And for private eyes or criminal investigators of the future, visitors can be the judge in the courtroom experience where blood splatter and other eye-witness evidence will be presented.

The new human-size 3D human anatomy Anatomage Table will showcase some of the cutting-edge learning opportunities at one of Australia’s leading schools of medicine.

Virtual-reality goggles and life-like new born manikins are part of the tours of the nursing and midwifery labs, and the School of Medicine and health sciences courses will give a taste of their teaching and learning with sensory and physical mobility tests and communication devices demonstrations.

Liquid nitrogen ice-cream making, exciting new 3D hologram technology and an augmented reality sandbox are among the Science and Engineering attractions.

Entrepreneurial business ventures will be on show – along with the creative arts, animal house and nanotechnology displays.

Plenty of food and refreshment outlets will be open between 9.30am and 3.30pm both days.

Join us at the Open Days and help Flinders University to celebrate its high achievements of the past 50 years.
